IUS Manchester kick-started its sisters activities and events with a fantastic charity dinner on Friday 26 February to celebrate the birth of the Prophet Muhammed (pbuh).

The evening was held in an exclusive restaurant in the heart of Manchester, serving an extensive buffet of delicious Indian cuisine. Approximately 100 sisters attended from a range of different backgrounds and ages, and were successful in raising a grand total of over £2,000 for the Iraqi Orphan Foundation.

The night began with an inspiring talk on the characteristics and qualities of the Holy Prophet of Islam and an appreciation of the religion he personified in all aspects of his life.  This was followed by some enthusiastic live nasheed recitations, and then by a general knowledge quiz.

The highlight of the evening however, was the auction. Amongst the prizes on offer was a holiday package to Egypt as well as a 21 carat gold necklace, each of which contributed a substantial amount to the overall total raised.

Sisters were also provided with the opportunity to indulge in an assortment of appetising traditional Middle Eastern sweets, as well as a select range of accessories provided by ‘Arabesque’, a local business specialising in a collection of ladies Islamic wear.

The night was memorable not only for its brilliant selection of activities, but also for uniting sisters under the banner of the morals for which both the Prophet and his holy progeny stood for in an exciting and stimulating atmosphere.

The money raised will also go a long way in providing for the many plighted orphans all over Iraq. Indeed, the event was most notably significant in triggering the reminder that we are still a long way from truly aspiring towards the goals of the Holy Prophet (pbuh) in our lives. It is hoped the event will serve as a catalyst for many more inspiring and enjoyable events for sisters of the North in the future.
