The summer camp this year was held between 10-12th July at the village of Eyam set in the lush green pastures of the peak district in Derbyshire. 62 lucky individuals from across the UK enjoyed a whole array of activities such as raft building, windsurfing, sailing and mountain biking at the beautiful lake at Carsington Water.

Despite the miserable weather forecasts and owing to some intense prayers during the late night spiritual zones, the attendees were able to enjoy some beautiful sunshine and remained dry for the majority of the weekend.

The theme this year centred on leadership, in both a historical and modern day context. Sayed Mohammad Musawi and Sayed Zafar Abbas gave several structured talks which, along with discussions and workshops, stimulated debate on topics such as women as leaders and current leaders of the Muslim world.

One specific workshop focused on a recent humanitarian disaster in Parachinar, Pakistan. Attendees split into six groups to decide on an initiative and formulate a plan of action as to how they were to help with the crisis. Each group presented their strategy and stunned the judges and workshop organisers with both their ideas and their impressive pitches.

That wasn’t the only opportunity our youth had to shine. As ever, the sports tournaments revealed some splendid talent in football, basketball and even aerobics! Plenty of photos are available on the IUS website.
